Human emotion through the lens of AI

Explore artworks generated from real emotional journals at this two-day exhibition.
Location
Silo 6, Wynyard Quarter, Auckland CBD
Dates
20 & 21 June 2026

What does artificial intelligence see when you share how you feel?

OpenMind is a public art exhibition featuring AI-generated artworks, each one created from a real person's emotional journal entry through the EmoEx Mental Health Companion, and shown with their consent.

Every piece begins with something deeply human, a moment of grief, calm, tension, joy, isolation or connection. This is not about diagnosis. It is about reflection, conversation and a new way of seeing what is often hard to put into words.

How the artworks are created

Every artwork in OpenMind begins with a real person's journal entry. Through the EmoEx Mental Health Companion's FeelLog feature, users write about how they're feeling, and the app transforms those reflections into a unique piece of AI-generated art.

Every work shown in the exhibition is included with user consent. The exhibition is designed to respect dignity, privacy and emotional safety, while creating a new way to see what can often be difficult to express.

More than an exhibition

Following the public exhibition, OpenMind hosts the AI in Mental Health Forum on Thursday 25 June at Auckland Hospital, Grafton. A focused one-day programme for clinicians, researchers, policymakers and digital health leaders exploring the responsible role of AI in mental health.
